The immune system weakens during the winter, so defenses drop and respiratory diseases are present. In this sense, the Directorate for the Surveillance of Noncommunicable Diseases of the Ministry of Public Health recommends strengthening the immune system with good eating habits by consuming fruit and vegetables, maintaining hydration and exercising.

“Food plays an important role in the development and maintenance of the immune system, thus helping to fight viruses and bacteria that threaten our body. The consumption of fruit, vegetables and seasonal vegetables helps to increase the defenses; in this way we will be able to avoid colds, flu and other respiratory diseases ”, indicated Claralina Mendoza, nutritionist of the Directorate for the surveillance of non-communicable diseases.

He added that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it must be healthy, complete and balanced. Breakfast provides 30% of the daily energy requirement, its function is very important for maintaining body temperature, especially in these days of low temperatures.
